A Level

A Level Physics is the study of how the universe works. You learn about matter, radiation, forces and mechanics and see how the laws of Physics work to produce the world around us. You will look at theories about the origin and fate of the universe and delve into the interactions of subatomic particles.

Entry requirements

  • Grade 5 or above in AQA Science Trilogy (or equivalent) OR Grade 5 or above in a Physics separate science course
  • Grade 5 or above in GCSE Maths
  • You must study Maths at A-Level

Progression routes from this course

Students who study Physics can go on to study for a degree in Physics, Maths, Engineering or Medicine. An A-level in Physics is so highly respected that it helps gain entry into many other degree courses as well.

AS Assessment

  • Paper 1: 90 mins (50%)
  • Paper 2: 90 mins (50%)

  • Further mechanics and thermal physics
  • Fields and their consequences
  • Nuclear physics
  • Optional topic: Astrophysics

A Level Assessment

  • Paper 1: 2 hours (34% of A Level)
  • Paper 2: 2 hours (34% of A Level)
  • Paper 3: 2 hours (32% of A Level)
