Our subjects

Overview

George Salter Academy has departments responsible for the subjects taught. The subject range at the Academy is designed to ensure that our students acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes which will equip them to enter adult life and then the world of work.

Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)

All students are taught the following:

Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and Science

Foundation Subjects: French, Product Design & Engineering, ICT, Religious Education, History, Geography, Art, Music, Drama, Dance and PE

Additional Subjects: Personal, Social and Health Education; Careers, SRE, British Values, and Citizenship

 

Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)

Year 10

All students are taught the following:

Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and Science, Options: Humanities, Performing Arts, Art and Technology

Additional Subjects: Personal, Social and Health Education; Careers, SRE, British Values, and Citizenship

Years 10 & 11

All students study: English, Mathematics, Science, ICT, PE and Personal, Social and Health Education, Religious Education and Careers.

The hallmark of the Key Stage 4 curriculum is CHOICE. All students choose two examination courses from the following free block subjects: History, Geography, PE, French, Spanish, Music, Dance, Business Studies, Drama, Food, Graphics, Textiles, Resistant Materials, Health and Social Care and Child Development.

Triple Science is also offered in this block for students seeking to specialise in Science at Post 16.
