Meet the Principal

Overview

I am a French & Spanish teacher and it is a privilege to be the Principal of the fabulous George Salter Academy. I believe that I lead a school with soul.

George Salter Academy is a large school but it has a unique family ethos. We are proud of our care and inclusivity whilst also maintaining the very highest expectations for all. We are ambitious for every child and believe that the world is a better place because George Salter children are in it.

I am passionate about learning and believe in a curriculum that is age appropriate, knowledge rich, broad and balanced. The curriculum is the beating heart of a school; it should be well sequenced and have clarity regarding what is being taught, when and why. At George Salter we are confident that our curriculum will continue to encourage students to attend, behave, discover the joy of learning in the wider sense and provide rich cultural capital and enrichment opportunities. It is my aim to ensure that our curriculum will equip every student with the appropriate knowledge and skills to enable them to excel in school and beyond.

I want our children to be happy and safe at the academy. I value the role of PSHE and pastoral care in making sure that young people grow up with an awareness of risk that will ensure their safety and happiness both during and beyond their time at school. I passionately believe that young people should have a voice and encourage the growth of student leadership and responding to student voice.

We have three core values at George Salter: ambition, belief and courage. If we are successful in our work then young people will leave us ready to tackle the many joys and challenges of the wider world as active globally aware citizens.

Finally, I do not believe that our academy should be lit up like a Christmas tree with initiatives. I will endeavour to keep things simple and focus solely on key school priorities. Our work will be focused, clear and effective in order to make sure that George Salter will be outward facing and always eager to improve.
