GSA

Following on from last week's notice, please note that the Year 13 Results Day this Thursday will run as planned.

Therefore, school will be open for all Year 13 students due to receive results on this day, all students need to be at the front of reception between 8.45 and 9.00 a.m. (at the latest). Please follow social distancing protocols on the way to the Academy and whilst on the Academy premises. Please be aware that only students are able to attend. Parents, other relatives or friends will not be able to enter the building. This is to enable the Academy to keep social distancing protocols in place for the safety of all students and staff.

Important Notice: Potential Change To Year 11 & 13 Results Days

GSA

You will be aware that Sandwell Council issued guidance last Friday entitled "Avoid a Local Lockdown in Sandwell". You can read this guidance by clicking here:

Sandwell Council - "Avoid a local lockdown in Sandwell"

Therefore, we wish to inform pupils and parents that we are considering an alternative “Remote Results Day” plan for our upcoming results days in August.

Although currently pupils have been informed of their relevant times to attend the Academy on their respective Results Day (Year 13 on the 13th August and Year 11 on 20th August), we may need to implement an alternative remote plan to play our part in helping avoid a local lockdown. This plan would entail no students being invited into the Academy on their Results Day; in this scenario their results will be emailed out to their Academy email address on that day and subsequently posted to their home address as well.

If we have to undertake this Remote Results Day plan, we will inform you via this website and our social media accounts, so please check for an update no earlier than next Tuesday 11th August.

GCSE Pod - Years 10 and 11

GSA

Hello Year 10 and 11,

We are relaunching GCSE Pod as another way to provide you with further support and guidance for your subjects over the summer and moving forwards into your return to key stage four at George Salter Academy.

You may already be familiar with GCSE Pod and how it works or this may be a brand new platform to you. However there have been lots of changes to GCSE Pod including new features that allow you to quiz yourself on key topics and a brand new website.

I have attached a Quick Start Guide [PDF] which explains the key features of GCSE Pod and how to log in to the website. This is now linked to your School Office 365 Accounts which you are familiar with and so this should be a smooth process. If you do have trouble remembering your email address, this can be found by clicking on your initials in the top right hand corner of the page in Microsoft Outlook.

Please spend some time familiarising yourself with GCSE Pod over the summer and make use of the videos to support your learning.

Take care,

Miss Woodhouse

Message from the WM Chief Constable - What you can expect from the Force

Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday introduced significant social restrictions, which touch on everyone’s lives across the West Midlands.

These are unprecedented in peacetime and I know will be hard on you and your families.

I want to assure you that my officers and staff will continue to work every hour of every day to keep you safe. We will protect you.

That is our duty and that is my promise to you.

But this is my ask of you. I urge the people of the West Midlands to follow the new instructions. They are essential and it will save lives.

Nothing is more important.

Officers and PCSOs will be visible in our communities and I have asked them all to engage positively but safely with anyone we suspect is in breach of the new regulations.

Officers will explain what the new restrictions are and what we expect of everyone.

If we have to talk to you we will:

  • Make it clear we are dealing with a national health emergency
  • Reinforce the importance of complying with these new measures
  • Strongly encourage people to adhere to them at all times
  • Reinforce that the measures are there to protect our country and in particular the vulnerable
  • Ask that you do not buy more food than you need. We need to look after each other.

If people do not listen to our advice then we will move to enforcement.

We are already receiving many calls on potential breaches of these arrangements. People can advise us if there are large scale breaches with large numbers of people congregating via webchat or 101. We would ask you to trust that we will target the most problematic behaviour.

This will only work if people make sensible choices and observe what they are being told.

You can keep in touch with West Midlands Police by following @WMPolice on Twitter, on Facebook as well as signing up for community messaging where you live via WMNow.

The country is facing a challenging period when helping each other and being good neighbours and friends has never been so vital.

As Chief Constable I know our communities will rise to the challenge and we will all work together to prevent the spread of the virus.
