A Level

This course looks at the three main components of Dance: performance, choreography and appreciation. Students will have the opportunity to develop these skills in a variety of different ways alongside transferable skills such as team working, communication and problem solving. All of these are sought after skills in higher education and by employers and will help you stand out in the workplace whatever your choice of career.

Entry requirements

Minimum of a grade C (or equivalent) in GCSE Dance

Progression routes from this course

Students will be well equipped for studying Dance at university as well as moving into employment/apprenticeships with the Performing Arts sector.

A Level Modules/Units

  • Component 1: Performance and Choreography
    • Solo performance linked to a specific practitioner within an area of study
    • Performance in a quartet
    • Group choreography
  • Component 2: Critical Engagement
    • Knowledge, understanding and critical appreciation of a compulsory set work and its location within a corresponding area of study
    • Knowledge, understanding and critical appreciation of one optional set work and its location within a corresponding area of study

A Level Assessment

  • Component 1: Practical exam, 80 marks, 50% of A Level
  • Component 2: Written exam (2 hours 30 minutes), 50% of A Level
    • Section A: short answer questions (25 marks) plus one essay question (25 marks)
    • Section B: two essay questions (25 marks each)
