The pastoral system at George Salter Collegiate Academy comprises four zones that incorporate the four houses; each with their own special identity: Rowley, Kenrick, Farley and Brunswick.

Each house has:

  • A Zone Director
  • A Head of House
  • Ten form tutors
  • A non-teaching Pastoral Manager, whose main role is to ensure the well being of students in their house

Staff and students work hard to embed the ethos of 'Every Child Matters' into everything they do. We value every student equally and strive to ensure that each one has access to experiences which will enhance their development as lifelong learners and encourage them to become positive members of society.

"One world in one school" - Ofsted agreed with our students' description of the school.

We're hugely proud of our students, who come to us from 36 different countries. We see this as a real strength in our academy as it fosters an attitude of tolerance and understanding.

Centre of Inclusion

We are proud of our Centre of Inclusion, which includes a thriving Special Education Needs (SEN) department. This provides a nurturing environment to help and support all students who experience difficulties within mainstream education.

Through the Centre, we provide Alternative Curriculum, which allows students to gain a range of GCSE qualifications in both academic and vocational areas.

In addition, the Centre of Inclusion hosts a number of outside agencies including counsellors, psychologists and support specialists.

SEN Department

Within our SEN department, we endeavour to support all students to the highest standard, both inside and outside of the classroom. Students who experience academic difficulties will be taught in small groups, often with additional support. Literacy sessions are available for students after school, on Saturdays and during holidays.

Gifted and Talented

A number of students at George Salter Collegiate Academy are gifted and talented.

We aim to provide a balanced curriculum which stretches and challenges students of all abilities including the most able. This is whether a student is gifted in on academic subject, a range of subjects, or possesses a particular talent in art, dance, drama, music or sport.
