Welcome To George Salter Academy
Welcome to George Salter Academy where we are in the midst of exciting times. The past five years have seen a remarkable transformation in the fortunes of our school, which became an Academy on 1st September 2007. In every conceivable and quantifiable way, the Academy has made significant improvement.
In particular, our external examination results have risen dramatically:
- At GCSE 5 A*-C there has been an incredible rise from 16% in 2003 to 96% in 2010. Indeed, this achievement was heralded by the Prime Minister in a White Paper on Education as an example of how our partnership with Shireland Collegiate Academy has flourished and produced amazing success
- Key Stage 3 results were our best ever last year and results in Key Stage 5 are similarly impressive
In addition to examination results, both the 2005 Ofsted report and the 2009 HMI report acknowledge that we are an Academy "where every child really does matter". We are proud of this observation since, on a daily basis, we strive to meet the varied individual needs of our students, both academically and pastorally. The Academy also celebrates its rich multi-cultural diversity. Again, Ofsted described our Academy as "one world in one school."
The most important development in the Academy has been its human resources; we have now recruited a highly qualified and skilled teaching and support staff. Inspectors and advisors who visit us invariable comment on the expertise, enthusiasm and commitment of our staff. However, there has also been a massive development in study support opportunities and many enhancements to the site fabric and learning environment, which are equal to any in Sandwell. In particular, our ICT facilities are now amongst the best in the borough.
To conclude, George Salter is poised for another year of exciting innovation, development and improvement. We will continue our drive for excellence and to pursue the noble goals articulated by Michael Alexander:
"Our aim is still for our school to be the best... a school without failure, where all children leave school having identified a talent, a skill, an intelligence, through which they can become whatever they want to be"
